Weaving a Scarf

with Diane Thomson

only 4 seats left

Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Tuition: $80  Materials: $25

You will learn basics for weaving a scarf and leave class with your own handwoven scarf. We will go over designing a scarf, calculating the materials for a scarf, and dressing the rigid heddle loom. We'll have time to weave the scarf and discuss the finishing.

You will be using rigid heddle looms that the school owns, which will be available to rent for a modest fee if you are not able to complete the weaving during the class time. If you have your own rigid heddle loom in working condition you may bring it to weave on, but please let the instructor know the specifics of your loom ahead of time. All the weaving materials for the scarf will be part of the class materials fee and will be provided by the instructor.

About the instructor: Diane Thomson enjoys many of the fiber arts and learned to weave in high school. She rediscovered weaving in 1985 when she purchased her first loom. She spent most of her weaving time on rag rugs until the 90’s, when she focused on spinning and knitting, which she has since taught at several yarn shops in the Twin Cities and at the Ely Folk School. She currently is offering knitting classes at Sisu Designs Yarn Shop in Ely.
