You’ll shape a strong, elegant and lightweight canoe paddle using traditional hand tools and woodworking techniques. These one-piece paddles, based on native North American designs, will be shaped with axes, planes, spokeshaves, drawknives and carving knives. Emphasis will be on safe and efficient use of hand woodworking tools. You’ll take home a finished canoe paddle, custom shaped for your own body & paddling style. No experience needed but hand and wrist strength recommended. Most tools are provided but its helpful if students can bring their own carving knife. Additional sawhorses, shaving horses & benches also appreciated.
