In this class, we will learn the basic skills of fingerweaving, a non-loom weaving technique used during the fur trade to create the colorful sashes worn by the Voyageurs. These sashes, called "ceinture flechee," were a sought-after trade item produced primarily by Native and Metis women. We will weave a small piece suitable for a bookmark or other small item.

Register by Friday, February 7.

Calling all canoe paddlers, joyful singers, and history buffs! Follow in the tradition of the fur-trade era voyageurs and learn a few of the tunes they used to make their work more lively. We will sing in French, but no prior knowledge of the language is needed. If you can sing "Row your boat" in the shower, you have enough musical knowledge to join us. In the true tradition of folk music, we will keep our reliance on sheet music to a minimum.
