Bent wiillow Chair Demo

Come and learn about the making of a one-of-a-kind Bent Willow Chair. This furniture has long been made by country people, using the beautiful variety of materials collected in the forest. The bending quality and flexible strength of willow makes for easy construction of a comfortable, strong chair, with minimal tools. A few hours of demonstration on materials, collection and the use of simple tools, and you'll be ready to go collect your materials then return for a one-day class to complete your unique chair.

John is offering a class on Sunday, April 14 in which you create your own chair.

About the Instructor: John Bajda is a retired high school teacher and has been teaching Rustic Furniture building through his local community ed program for the past 15 years.

Create a Bohemian Stool
Tuesday February 6, 2018
1:00PM- 5:00PM

Tuition:$40 Materials: $15

In this beginners carpentry class, you'll create a functional furnishing that can become an heirloom craft piece! With pre-cut pieces and guidance from a professional woodworker, you'll jig saw, assemble, sand and seal this elegant stool. Then, later, if you'd like, let your imagination go "Bohemian" and paint it as whimsically as you choose. Better yet, give it as a handcrafted gift for a favorite young friend or family member to paint.

About the Instructor: Evan Faltesek runs Silver Birch Builders and helped spearhead the Make Your Own Bathouse class, which broke a Guinness World Record. He has taught how to carve stone and wood at Ely Folk School previously and has a passion for carving.

*Friday evening demo and Saturday or Sunday work day

Come and learn about the making of a one-of-a-kind Bent Willow Chair. This furniture has long been made by country people, using the beautiful variety of materials collected in the forest. The bending quality and flexible strength of willow makes for easy construction of a comfortable, strong chair, with minimal tools. A few hours of demonstration on materials, collection and the use of simple tools, and you'll be ready to go collect your materials or have instructor bring them for a fee, then return for a one-day class to complete your unique chair. Craft your own chair on the work day.   Make the frame and then bend the willows to make a comfortable chair you can use for years if kept under a roof, or keep it in your yard and make a new one every few years. Because the willow is very flexible and springy, it is best  to have a partner working with you to hold the willow as you nail the sticks in place.  The partner does not need to pay unless they also make their own chai
